Verne Harnish, a mentor and advisor I have used for years has a very firm view on accountability. In Verne’s words, “If everyone is accountable, no one is accountable!”.
At The Physio Co, I’ve learnt the hard way that Verne is spot on. These days, every job is assigned to one person and only one person. Never two people and never a group or committee.
Of course the person accountable has the freedom to recruit other people to help if need be. But, that one person is accountable and I know who to ask for an update. The result: things get done.
